Carl Helms

Carl Lee Helms III, 67 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2014 at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle.

Carl was born June 27, 1946 in Stanly County to the late Carl Lee Helms, Jr. and Mazel Morris Helms of Albemarle . He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Annyce Helms and Brenda Helms Moore, and by his grandfather, Carl Lee Helms Sr., who was founder of Helms Motor Express in 1927.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Friday, April 25, 2014 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service officiated by Rev. Adam Hatley will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 26, 2014 in Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel in Albemarle. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, 1425 East Main Street, Albemarle. NC 28001.

In addition to his mother, Mazel Ethrillion Morris Helms of Albemarle, he is survived by his two daughters, Susan Hamilton of Cherryville and Lisa Helms of Hendersonville; one grandson, Correy Hamilton; brother, Thomas Burton Helms of Albemarle; and former wife, Karen Bridges of Cherryville.

Carl was a graduate of East Mecklenburg High School where he was an outstanding athlete and he attended Wingate College. A veteran of the US Navy, he was a real estate broker. Previously, he was employed by the NC Prison Department.
