Carl Helms, Jr

Carl Lee Helms, Jr., 92 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013 at his home. Carl was born April 3, 1921 in Stanly County to the late Carl Lee Helms, Sr. and the late Mabel Drye Helms. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Martha Helms and Brenda Helms Moore. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Wednesday at 11:00 am at West Albemarle Baptist Church, with Rev. Adam Hatley officiating. He will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service.The burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, with military honors conducted by the Stanly County DAV, Chapter 12. At other times, the family will be meeting at the home. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mazel E. Morris Helms; sons, Carl Lee Helms, III and Tommy Helms; and five grandchildren, Joe, David, Lisa, Susan, and Tina. Carl served his country honorably in the Army. He served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Helms family.
