Carl Edward Starnes

Carl Edward Starnes, 87, of Stanfield, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Monday, July 17, 2023.

Carl was born October 1, 1935 in North Carolina to the late Onslow Murphy Starnes and the late Leota Jane Starnes. 
He was also preceded in death by wife, Loretta Starnes; brothers, Sherman Starnes, and JD Starnes.

The funeral service will be on Thursday at 3:00 pm at Indian Hill Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Stanfield officiated by Reverend Rick Brundin.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery at 8349 NC Hwy. 200, Stanfield, NC 28163.

Carl was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  Carl joined the Untied States Air Force when he was 19 and became an Airman First Class.  He worked as an air traffic controller from 1959 to 1972 at the control center in Hilliard, Florida.  Some of Carl's hobbies included wood working, and amateur radio.  Carl loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at baseball games, as well as Friday lunches at the Fresh House.  Carl Loved the Lord with all his heart, and is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior.

Survivors include daughter, Rebecca ( Todd) Pipkin; grandchildren, Justin (Camille) Pipkin, Mason Pipkin, and Jessica Pipkin; great-grandchildren, Logan, Ethan, and Landon Pipkin; sisters, Francis Scarboro, and Pat Bodenhamer; and special daughter, Terri Croft; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Donations may be made to Indian Hill Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Stanfield.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to his caretakers over the past year; John Williams, Michelle Sheffield, Michelle Stroupe, and Sharon Lynch.  And most recently, Hospice of Union County.
