Carol Burleson

Margaret Carol Westbrook Burleson, Burleson Road, Albemarle, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021, surrounded by family members.  She shared a marriage of 58 years to Johnny Paul Burleson who preceded her in death.  She is survived by daughters, Cindy Burleson Dry (Ron) of Albemarle and Angie Burleson Rudisill (Alton) of Catawba, NC; grandchildren, Mandy (Levi) Efird, Travis (Michele) Dry, Jill Dry, Bradley Rudisill, and Hunter (Abby) Rudisill; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Carol's parents were Paul Lee Westbrook, Sr. and Cynthia Fleming Westbrook of Albemarle.  Her surviving sibling is Joan Westbrook Sells.  Four brothers preceded her in death;  Paul Jr., Jack, Joe, and Bobby Westbrook.

Carol retired from Stanly County Schools after a career of over 30 years of service at Norwood High School, Boyden High School in Salisbury, Seagrove High School in Randolph County, and Oakboro Elementary School where she taught Home Economics and Earth Science.

Carol was a committed church member for most of her life.  She attended Pine Grove Methodist Church where she was at different times a Sunday School teacher, Youth Leader, Choir Director, and member of the United Methodist Women.  She was proud to be a member of the local chapters of the DAV Ladies Auxiliary and Daughters of American Revolution.

Known as a good cook, Carol and her family pulled together trusted family recipes and published the Burleson-Westbrook Cookbook which were welcomed gifts among her family members and friends. She was well known for making cakes for all occasions and brides throughout the county called on her to cater receptions and serve her homemade cakes.

Carol traveled with her husband and family members during the summers.  She was able to visit 48 out of 50 of our states and parts of Europe.

The funeral service will be on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Pine Grove United Methodist Church in Albemarle officiated by Rev. Ron Dry, Rev. Monty Clark, and Rev. Ron Hartman. Burial will follow at the Pine Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery at 28766 NC 24-27 Highway, Albemarle.

The family wishes to thank her loyal caregivers: Christine Stancil, Sylvia Eddins, and Penny Hatley.

Memorials may be made to the NC Retired School Personnel, Hospice of Stanly & the Uwharrie, and Pine Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.
