Carole Jenrette Soles Yost, 86, died peacefully at her home in Albemarle, NC on February 20, after a long illness.
She was born May 3, 1936, to the late Richard Vernon and Geneva Dutton Soles, in Whiteville, NC. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Richard Vernon Soles, Jr., and her husband of 52 years, Thomas Marion Yost, Sr.
Mrs. Yost was a 1954 graduate of Whiteville High School and attended UNC-Chapel Hill, where she earned a degree in education in 1960. She also did graduate work at UNC-Charlotte. She taught in the Albemarle City Schools for nineteen years, mostly as a 3rd grade teacher at Central Elementary School. She attended Appalachian State University in the summer of 1988 and earned her elementary Spanish teaching certification. She taught Spanish in kindergarten and first and second grades at Central Elementary School for five years.
She enjoyed playing bridge, doing crossword puzzles, reading, and sewing. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church in Albemarle, where she served as an elder and with the Women of the Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Laura Yost-Grande (Len Grande) of Chapel Hill, NC; two sons-Thomas M. Yost, Jr. of Burlington, NC, and Steven Yost (Deborah Albritton) of Whiteville; and grandson Nicholas Grande of Carrboro, NC. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Sara Alligood, of Concord; and one brother-in-law, Dr. William F. Yost (Phyllis) of Granite Falls, NC; and two nephews, three nieces, one great niece and one great nephew.
The family is forever grateful to her caregiver, companion, and friend, Anita “Bunky” Brown, for her loving care, as well as to her hospice nurses and caregivers, Susan Smith, Brandy Horne, and Brittany McGuire.
The family will receive family and friends from 1pm to 2pm on Saturday, March 4th at First Presbyterian Church in Albemarle, NC. A Memorial Service will follow the visitation in the Church Chapel.
