Caroline Randel

June 9, 1951 — August 26, 2017

Caroline Porter Randel, of Concord, NC , formerly of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, August 26, 2017 at home, with her family and beloved companion dog Killian.

Caroline was born June 9, 1951 in Panama Canal Zone to the late Col. Dr. Hugh Wayne Randel and the late Gloria Porter Scott. She was also preceded in death by her brother Hugh Wayne Randel, Jr. of Berlin, MD.

Caroline is survived by her son, Alistair Jeremy Coyte and his family which includes wife Samantha "Sammie", grandson Camden age 7 and granddaughter McKenzie age 5 of Concord, NC; her sister Irene Randel Sanz and husband Robert Sanz of Princeton, NJ; and sister Mulan Chan-Randel of Richmond, CA. Extended family includes niece Regina Sanz-Dahnoun, nephews Cody Randel and Gregory Sanz.

Caroline grew up in a US Air Force family all over the world, developing her love of travel and deep respect for military protocol and service. She served as a political speech writer in Washington DC before deciding to study law. Her career as an attorney began in the early 1990's when she moved to Charlotte, NC with her family. Caroline joined IBM as a contract negotiator where she dedicated 20 years.

Despite her diligence for work, Caroline's life always centered around her home, family, and friends. She was the consummate hostess, regularly entertaining at home whether preparing a lavish holiday dinner party or impromptu wine and cheese for friends.

A student of English history, Caroline was a avid reader. From her own library she particularly enjoyed her collection of Agatha Christie mystery writings. In retirement Caroline launched herself into travel. From her far flung Italy tours, her European river cruises to closer- to - home family visits.

Her greatest joy came with her grandchildren who were themselves inspired by "GIGI" colorful tales of her travels. The best years of her life have been spent living " just around the corner" from Alistair and his family following their relocation to North Carolina after his Army Career.

Friends are invited to gather with the family at Caroline's home on Tuesday, August 29th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.

Memorials may be made to the ASPCA and the Purple Heart Homes for veterans.
