Carolyn Wilkinson Hicks, 88, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away Monday, November 4, 2024 under hospice and the care of her granddaughter, Angela Manz, in Virginia Beach.

Carolyn was born in North Carolina to the late Wyatt Shuford Wilkinson and the late Margaret Canipe VanLandingham. She was a proud Air Force wife, supporting her husband, Ray E. Hicks, Jr., during his 20-year military career. Carolyn was an active member of her church, Southside Baptist in Charlotte, NC, for over 30 years, serving on the bereavement committee and going on multiple mission trips with her husband. Carolyn had a rewarding career at Charlotte Memorial Hospital for over 30 years. She loved her family, her cats, and all department stores. 

Carolyn was also preceded in death by husband, Ray E. Hicks, Jr.; son, Richard L. Hicks; sister, Nancy Simmons; and grandson Brandon Hicks. 

Survivors include her sons Ray E. Hicks, III and wife Mariko of Fayetteville, David Hicks and wife Sherry of York, SC, and six grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. 

A graveside service will be on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Palmerville Baptist Church in Badin, North Carolina, officiated by Rev. Don Burleyson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. 

Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Hicks family.
