Carolyn Marie Carter Layburn, 74, of Salisbury, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, May 3, 2024, after a period of declining health.
Carolyn was born January 6, 1950, in Concord, North Carolina to the late Lester Emmett Carter and the late Annie Pearl Collette Carter.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Robert James Layburn, Sr.
Mrs. Layburn was educated in the Cabarrus County School System. She worked for Fieldcrest Cannon as a spooler, and then made her professional career caring for the mentally and physically challenged.
Carolyn loved to work in her flower garden and enjoyed planting a vegetable garden each summer. Her hobbies were cross stitching, spending time with the Lord reading her bible each morning and spoiling her grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service in celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Friendship Baptist Church in Salisbury officiated by Rev. Jason Pierce. Burial will follow at the Salisbury National Cemetery at 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury.
Survivors include son, Marion Spence (Teasha) Carpenter, son, Robert James Layburn, Jr., and daughter, Melanie (Marc) Jacobs all of Salisbury, NC; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters Brenda Thompson, Judy (Ira) Mullis, and Charlotte Baucom all of Concord, NC;
