Carolyn Miller Thompson

Carolyn Genevieve Miller Thompson was called peacefully to her heavenly home on August 11, 2024, at Trinity Place, which had been her "home away from home" for the past two years.

Carolyn was born in Salisbury, NC on October 6, 1939, to the late Arthur DeBerry Miller and Dorothy Odessa Canupp Miller.

Carolyn was an active member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church as long as her health permitted. She was honored to teach Sunday School, First Communion, and Vacation Bible School. She was a choir member, Congregational Council Member, and Church Trustee. She loved her church and her church family.

She was a graduate of Richfield High School in 1957, and an honor graduate from East Carolina in 1961. She obtained her MA degree from East Carolina in 1962. She loved her teaching in New Hanover County, Wilmington and Albemarle City Schools. She strived for her students to achieve and set high goals. Her entire career was dedicated to education.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Arlen Thompson and two brothers, Joseph Lloyd Miller and Wayne Allen Miller.

She is survived by a sister, Kathleen Miller Kirk (Richard); a brother-in-law, Ronald Colon Thompson (Jane); special nieces and nephews; her church family and close friends. Her deep love for her family was unsurpassed.

The funeral service will be Friday, August 16, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Craig Saltzer, officiating. Interment will follow at Luther's Lutheran Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Memorial Fund directed to Backpack Buddies, Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, PO Box 86, Richfield, NC 28137 or Luther's Lutheran Church Cemetery Upkeep Fund, 4995 Richfield Road, Richfield, NC 28137.
