Charles Albert Smith, Jr., 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 27, 2018 with his family by his side.
Charles was born March 4, 1938 to the late Charles Albert Smith, Sr. and the late Hallie Marie Myers Smith. He was preceded in death by beloved daughter Alice Charlene Smith and his fourteen siblings.
Charles was a devoted husband, loving father, and a faithful servant to his Lord and Savior. He grew up working on the family farm while attending Harrisburg school, K-12. At age twenty, Charles met the love of his life, Betty Joe, at Harris Lake. They fell in love dancing and swimming together on the weekends and wed in 1958. They raised three beloved children together. Charles enjoyed fishing trips to the beach in preparation for his annual fish fry, as his love for cooking always brought his family together.
After 57 years, Charles retired from his role as a Vice President at Allison Fence Company. He devoted his time serving as a deacon, treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and youth leader at Pine Grove Baptist Church. Charles was the first President of the Central Cabarrus Bible Teaching Association; he had a passion for teaching and cared deeply for the youth and bringing them to know Christ. He was later honored with an award from the NC Baptist Association for his many years of service as a Sunday School teacher.
Charles will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a life-long farmer, devoted Christian, American patriot, fisherman, chef, gardener, and lover of his jack russell terriers.
