Charles Emery "Chip" Osborne, III, 61, of New London, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at his home.
Chip was born May 13, 1962, in Greensboro, North Carolina to Geraldine Kay Coble Osborne and the late Charles Emery Osborne, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Oakboro in the fellowship hall officiated by Rev. Jonathan Waits.
Survivors include mother, Geraldine Coble Osborne of Pleasant Garden, NC; fiancé, Jill Turner of the home; son, Cade Turner and daughter, Lauren Osborne; and sister, Tammy (Dan) Faulk of Pleasant Garden, NC.
Chip graduated high school from Southeast Guilford. He attended Lees-McRae College and Gardener Webb College, both on a football scholarship, earning a bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry. Chip also earned a Fire Science Degree at GTCC. His passion for sports followed him after his high school and college career and he coached multiple football, baseball, and track and field teams throughout his life. Chip started his firefighting service at Thomasville Fire Department and served with numerous municipalities during his career as a firefighter, including Mt. Airy as Chief, and most recently serving as Assistant Chief of Oakboro Fire Department and a member of Southside Fire Department. Due to Chip's wealth of knowledge in firefighting, he was also employed by the Community College system as a facilitator of fire and rescue training. He also trained multiple agencies along the east coast, Chip was known throughout the east coast and well respected for his fire service knowledge. Chip was doing what he loved right up until his last breath. The evening before his passing he was training multiple Fire Departments at Endy Fire Department. He dedicated his life to fire education and training.
