Charles Conrad
May 19, 2003 — February 7, 2017
Charles "Chase" Emerson Conrad, 13, our little man with the biggest heart, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 7, 2017.
Chase entered our lives one month early, and 3 minutes after his twin sister, Katie, on May 19, 2003, small in size, but never in spirit, love for his family, or curiosity of the world in which he entered at a mere 3 lbs 7oz.
Chase was in 8th grade at Hickory Ridge Middle School in Harrisburg. He played trombone in the school band; confident in his musical abilities, he would remind his twin sister that practice was not needed, as there were only so many notes, and he knew them all already.
He grew his imagination and creativity with his love of Legos; his eyes would light up when he received a new set, and the box would barely be opened before he was assembling and then tinkering with the pieces in a way that his creation outshone any picture on the box.
A lover of animals, and especially his two dogs, Lucy and Jake, Chase was always cuddling with and getting kisses from his pets. Fascinated by the animal world, he would often look for all things creepy-crawly wherever he was outside, eager to explore and learn all about his new found, mostly six-legged, “friends.”
With an infectious giggle, Chase was quick to make us laugh, whether telling jokes and funny stories, showing silly videos on his phone, or playing practical jokes like positioning rubber bands around sink sprayers to splash the next unsuspecting user to turn on the faucet.
First on his agenda during family vacations, and at all other times, Chase could eat his weight (and that of his siblings) in ice cream, always stopping to pose for a picture, with a heaping cone in his hand, and a grin from ear to ear. If ice cream was nowhere to be found, steak would be a fine substitute.
And love…boy, did this kid love. Wholeheartedly. Unabashedly. Genuinely. You never had to ask Chase for hugs and kisses; he gave his family these treasures openly and often, never shying from affection.
Whether playing with his sisters in the pool, cuddling with his pups, spying his next nerf gun target, fishing with his grandpas, cooking with his Mimi, or humming and dancing around the house with no shoes (and likely no shirt), Chase was a bright light in the lives of his family and loved ones; a light that will be terribly missed by all who felt its warmth.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord, with an on-site chapel service to immediately follow. A private family interment will follow at a later date. The family has requested casual dress in lieu of formal attire.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Humane Society of Concord and Greater Cabarrus County, 2010 Wilshire Court SW, Concord, NC 28025.
Chase is survived by his parents Jaicie and Christopher Conrad and two sisters, Katie Conrad and Madison Conrad; great-grandmothers Delores Castleberry and Dolores Medoro; paternal grandparents Barbara and Lawrence Conrad; maternal grandparents Hampton and Diana Castleberry, and Cindy Medoro; aunts and uncles Kelly Castleberry, Paige Goodlett, Vicki and Richard Trzeszkowski, Scott Conrad and Aaron Conrad, Tara and Jason Hord, Krista and Daniel Melo; cousins Alexa Rovira, Madison Hord, Mackenzie Hord, and many more aunts, uncles, and cousins outside of North Carolina.
