Charles D. Whitley

Charles Douglas Whitley, 72, of New London, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2024.

Doug was born March 25, 1952 in North Carolina to the late Crawford Lee Whitley and the late Edith Miller Whitley.

He was also preceded in death by brothers, James Calvin Whitley and Ronnie Lee Whitley.

Many can remember Doug's love of gardening, and the shared bounty his garden produced each season. His love of the outdoors also included hunting and fishing at Tuckertown, Lake Tillery, Badin Lake and Lake Whitney. In his earlier years, Doug enjoyed motorcycle riding and owned a Harley Springer; you could also find him (in his words) 'piddling around outside', either tinkering with things or doing yard work. Outside of his love for the outdoors, Doug spent a lot of his time attending Auctions and going to Flea Markets; it was at these places where he would bid on and win many useful tools and power equipment. Half the time, when you asked Doug where he got something, his answer would be the 'Auction'. We love and miss you, Doug. 

The memorial service will be on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel in Albemarle officiated by Pastor Kay Eckstein . 

Survivors include son, Timothy William Whitley (Meredith) of Spring Branch, TX; grandchildren, William Whitley and Grant Whitley; sisters, Arlene Huneycutt (Donnie) of Millingport, NC and Becky Whitley of Albemarle, NC; brother, Gary Whitley or New London, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
