Charles Efird Hill, 84, of Asheville, formerly of Polkton and Morganton, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014 at Hospice House of Union County in Monroe.
He was born April 8, 1930 in Union County to the late Arthur Hill and the late Georgia Lou Roberts Hill. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Anna Frances Allen Hill; his close friend and brother-in-law Albert Allen; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bill and Minnie Lou Allen Huneycutt.
There will be a private graveside service at Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Polkton, NC.
He is survived by his only child, his daughter and son-in-law, Helen Hill Halterman and husband, Jim. He is also survived by his nephew, Wayne (Diane) Huneycutt of Monroe, NC; his nieces, Ann (Mike) Shepperd of Marshville, NC and Kay (Mike) Draper of Norman, OK; and special cousins, Keith (Lucy) Hill and Pauline (David) Profitt of Newport, TN.
Charles graduated from NC State University in 1952. His first employment was in the chemistry lab of the FBI in Washington, DC which was the precursor to forensic science. He retired from the NC Wildlife Resources Commission as the supervising game biologist for Western North Carolina. He served 40 years in the United States Army Reserves and retired as a colonel in the 108th Infantry Division.
He was a committed conservationist and an avid hunter and fisherman.
