Charles Hough

Charles "Charlie" Henry Hough, 82 years of age, of Matthews, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center in Matthews.

Charlie was born July 21, 1934 in Cabarrus County to the late Henry Washington Hough and the late Julia Lucille Hough. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Helen Ballard.

The family will hold a memorial celebration of his life on Charlie's birthday at 5:00pm, Friday, July 21, 2017 at the home of his nephew and niece, Charles and Wanda Correll.

He was married to the late Phylis Schriver Hough for 16 years from 1957 to 1973 and to Peggy Williamson Hough for almost 39 years from 1978-2017 and caregiver for over 40 years. He was injured in 1975 from an electrical accident and was confined to a wheelchair for almost 42 years. He was a loving husband and father. Charlie was a member of Mt. Olivet Methodist church where he was a member of the choir before his accident and was very active in all church and school functions at Winecoff and Northwest High.

Charlie was a Sergeant E5 in the Army National Guard of North Carolina and he was also in the Army Reserve. He was a volunteer fireman for the Winecoff Fire Department for 25 years and was a member of the Winecoff Lions Club for a number of years. Charlies was also a member of Hamlet Hunt Club where he loved to hunt and skeet shoot. He loved to fish. In the 1950's and 1960's he was a member of a square dance club, the "Wagon Wheelers". He owned his own construction company and later was part owner of Twin City Construction company. He was also part owner of Hough and Hough Auction company and owner of 18th Century Antique Shop. He developed a true love of auctions, antique markets, and buying and reselling furniture.

Survivors include wife, Peggy Williamson Hough of Matthews; son, Charles (Hank) Hough, Jr. (Stacy) of Parker, CO; daughter, Dawn (Steve) Sebaugh of San Diego, CA; daughter, Heather (Steve) Stuart of Aurora, CO; daughter, Tricia (Jeff) Bost of Rockwell; daughter, Tiffany McIntyre of Kannapolis; sister, Doris Correll of Kannapolis; sister, Hazel Pinnix of Kannapolis; eight grandchildren; and one aunt, Lois Morris of Kannapolis, nieces and nephews: Sheila and Tommy Varnadore of Florence, SC, and Wanda and Charles Correll of Concord, NC, and Shirley and Larry Helms of Indian Trail, NC.
