Charles Leathers

Charles "Van" Leathers, 75, of Albemarle, NC, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on
February 27, 2022, at Atrium Health in Concord, NC.

Van was born and raised in Durham, NC, by the late Edgar Norman Leathers and Mary Poole Leathers. He spent most of his adult years in Charlotte, NC, and then in Myrtle Beach, SC, with his wife of 17 years, Carol Holcomb Leathers.

Van wore many hats in his work career, including working with the public, where he touched many lives and made lasting friendships. He was an avid sports fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Duke Blue Devils. Van bled DUKE Blue and enjoyed harassing his wife, nephews, grandchildren, and other "tarhole" fans over the Duke and Carolina rivalry. He is undoubtedly working on turning the skies from Carolina Blue to Duke Blue!

As passionate as Van was about sports, he was even more in his love for his family. He and Carol enjoyed the beach life and the many friends they made in their community. They recently decided to move "home" to be closer to family. Van was so proud of "his girls" and all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He made lasting impressions in their lives as well.

Van is survived by his loving wife, Carol, three daughters, Lisa Leathers, Carrie Duston (Darrin), Shelley Allen (Scot), stepson Dusty Dellinger (Vanessa), sister-in-law, Lillian Leathers Walker, and lifelong friend, Fairy Ragan. He also leaves 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, three puppies (Gizmo, Izzy, Zeke), nephews, and one favorite niece.

Van is preceded in death by his father, Edgar Norman Leathers, mother, Mary Poole Leathers, brother, Norman Leathers, Sister Shirley Work, stepdaughter Candee Davis, and granddaughter Emily Leathers.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 6, 2022, from 2 pm to 3:45 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home in Harrisburg, NC.
