Charles Jon Stone, 71, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast in Concord, NC, surrounded by his family. Jon was born on July 25, 1940 in Atlanta, Georgia. He served in the United States Army and attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, GA before moving to Dahlonega, GA in 1967. He owned and operated several restaurants during his years in Dahlonega, including the Lodestone, before opening the Dahlonega General Store in 1987. He is survived by his mother, Grace McKown Collier of Swainsboro, GA; a son, Jay Stone and his wife, Mariana of Dahlonega, GA; a daughter, Jennifer Stone Erdin and her husband, Robert of Concord, NC; five grandchildren, Alex and Chase Erdin, Milly,Santi and Sophie Stone; a sister, Anne Hood and her husband, Carl; and niece and nephews, Clint and Sherri Hood, Chip Hood, Chris and Keri Hood, Clay and Alison Hood and David and Suzanne Bolden. The family will receive friends and have a memorial service on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Dahlonega Funeral Home, 20 Gibson Road, Dahlonega, Georgia. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. The service will begin at 7:00 pm in the Dahlonega Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bill Hutcheson officiating. A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 11:00 am at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 351 Morrow Road, Forest Park, Georgia with Dr. Spencer Frye officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Community Helping Place, P.O. Box 712, Dahlonega, GA 30533. Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord, NC and Dahlonega Funeral Home of Dahlonega, GA are serving the Stone family.
