Charlie Virgil Burris, 102 years of age, of New London, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Stanly Manor in Albemarle.
Mr. Burris was born October 14, 1913 in Stanly County to the late Brack Franklin Burris and the late Inez Levernie Burris. He was also preceded in death by wife, Emma Pauline Burris, a son, Keith W. Burris, granddaughter, Emma Miller Warden, a great granddaughter, Amber Morton, four brothers, and two sisters.
Virgil retired from the Wiscassett Mills after 25 years of service and farmed and raised poultry and cattle until he was 95. He had been a faithful member of Plyler Baptist Church for 76 years serving as a Sunday School Teacher and a Deacon. He enjoyed gardening, riding his tractor and going on his agricultural farm trips. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Wednesday, November November 25, 2015 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Friday, November 27, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Plyler Baptist Church, 25972 Austin Road in Albemarle officiated by Pastor Brian Franklin and J.R. Drake. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include sons, Glenn Burris and wife Betty of Albemarle, daughters, Norma Jean Miller and husband Horace of New London, Linda Burris and husband Oden of New London, sisters, Hazel Pauline "Polly" Moose of Albemarle, nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, ten great great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends, Sue Coble, J.R. Drake, and Jack Laxton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County and the Uwharrie, 960 North First Street, Albemarle, NC 28001 or Plyler Cemetery Fund, 25972 Austin Road, Albemarle, NC 28001.
