Charlie Marsh Turner, 76 of 337 McCoy Creek Road, Oakboro, NC, passed away on August 30, 2011 at his home, after a courageous 5 year battle with cancer. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle on Thursday, September 1, 2011 from 6pm until 8pm. At other times, the family will meet at Mr. Turner’s home in Oakboro. The funeral service will be in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, September 2 at 2pm, officiated by Rev. Gerald Baucom. Burial will follow at the Oakboro Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Stanly County DAV, Chapter 12. Mr. Turner was born in Stanly County on April 10, 1935, to the late Walter Sylvester Turner and the late Ruby Flora Strawn Turner. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Walter Leamon Turner. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mayme Jane Gilbert Turner of the home; son, Charles “Don†Turner of Oakboro, NC; step daughters, Patricia Thatcher of Rock Hill, SC, Carol Ann Keener of Disputania, VA and Janet Adamyzac of CA; sisters, Betty Meggs of Marshville, NC and Maxine Carter of Concord, NC; step grandchild, Jayme Nelson of Rock Hill, SC; and special friend, Rita Crisco. He was employed with United Airlines as a customer service agent. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Turner family.
