Christine Hellen Snuggs, 93 years of age, formerly of Albemarle, NC passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016 at her home in Greenville, NC.
Mrs. Snuggs a native of Greenville, NC, born to the late Earle West Hellen and the late Helen Christine Tyson Hellen on October 16, 1922. She graduated from East Carolina Teachers College and did graduate work at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She worked as a primary grade school teacher and was a charter member of the Stanly County Unit of the Retired NC School Personnel which began in 1984. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma honorary society for women educators. She was honored with the title of "Woman of The Year 1988" with the Albemarle Women's Club. Mrs. Snuggs was a former longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Albemarle, NC. She is a current member at The Memorial Baptist Church in Greenville, NC. She enjoyed playing bridge, and especially her Thursday afternoon canasta group at the Stanly County Senior Center. Always giving of herself to others whether as a volunteer at Stanly County Hospital or sending cards to her many friends. An avid fan of Tarheel sports, she so looked forward to dressing up in Carolina blue to cheer them on.
Mrs. Snuggs was preceded in death by her husband, Herschell Francis Snuggs in 1982; brother, Earle W. Hellen, Jr.; sister, Elizabeth (Betsy) H. Sugg.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, Thursday, October 20, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Albemarle. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm in the church sanctuary, officiated by Rev. Roger Thomas and Rev. Andy Jung. Burial will follow at the Old Albemarle Cemetery on 700 Pee Dee Avenue in Albemarle.
Survivors include daughter, Frances S. Wilson (Fran) and husband John of Greenville, NC; son, Charles R. Snuggs (Charlie) of Myrtle Beach, SC; granddaughter, Sharon W. Bates, of Simpson, NC; grandson, William Benjamin Wilson (Ben) and fiancée, Elizabeth Ivy (Liz) of Greenville, NC; and two great grandsons, Caleb Marck Collins and Charles Steven Bates of Simpson, NC; and six nieces and four nephews.
