Clara McDaniel Baker,88, of Miller Avenue, Concord passed away suddenly Friday, September 23, 2011 at Northeast Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born February 17, 1923 in Concord to the late Edward Smoot McDaniel and Viola Lewis McDaniel. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM at Hartsell Funeral Home on Sunday, September 25, 2011, followed by a Celebration of Life in the chapel officiated by Rev. Tom Whidden and nephew Rick McDaniel. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. At other times the family will be meeting at the home. In the fifties and sixties she worked for Hugh Grey (Kayser Roth Hosiery). Later she was the Manager of Leader Brothers Department Store. During her retirement years worked for the Department of Aging and the Veterans Administration. She was active for many years in Wright G Campbell Order of the Eastern Star and a life member of the American Legion Post 51 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of First Assembly Worship Center. Before her health deteriorated she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, traveling, being around people and spending time with her family, especially vacations at the beach. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son Larry Moose, brothers, George, Ken, Charlie and Frank McDaniel, sisters, Blanche Counterman and Nora Jane Motley, and two Grandchildren. She is survived by a son Billy Moose, (Shirley) of Concord. Daughters, Linda Cordell, Diane Jamison (Wayne) of Concord and Pat Auten (Larry) of Blacksburg. SC. She was blessed with 12 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great Grandchildren. A special thanks to Cynthia Meadows for her many years of love and care and also to Judy Engelhaupt for her love and care during the past year. We also thank Dr. Geoffery Rackoff for his care and concern over the years and the ER Doctors at Northeast or their Kindness.
