He will always be remembered by his family and friends for the loving care he provided his wife, Bertha, who was stricken with crippling Rheumatoid Arthritis. He took early retirement to care for her, learned to cook and do housework, and tirelessly attended to her every need. He will also be remembered for his love of singing and being the inspiration for his grandchildren, “The Hatley Family Band”. Even during his last days, he could be heard singing old Gospel songs such as, “Amazing Grace” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and was often heard quoting The Bible. He had a great love for other people and one of his favorite sayings was one he had heard his father quote many times, “If you want to have friends, you have to be a friend yourself.” Mr. Herrin was a past member and deacon of Herrin’s Grove Primitive Baptist Church. He worked many long, hard hours helping build the present building at Herrin’s Grove Primitive Baptist Church. The family will be at the home of his son, Jimmy Ray Herrin at 220 Lagoda Drive, Locust.
