Claudia Connell Clontz, 82 of Monroe, died peacefully on September 8, 2011. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home, 13575 Broadway Avenue, Midland, NC on Monday, September 12, 2011 from 6 to 8. A service to honor her life will be held at Mill Creek Baptist Church in Monroe, NC on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 11 AM, with Rev. Marvin Tyson officiating. Burial will be at Lakeland Memorial Park, Monroe. Mrs. Clontz was born in Union County, NC on January 21, 1929 and was a daughter of the late Rev. Brady Lee Connell and the late Verla Price Connell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Olin Clontz and a brother, Robert Neal Connell. She is survived by her children, Ann Clontz and husband, Lt. Col. (Retired, U.S. Army) Jerry Self of Elizabethtown, KY, Ricky and wife Teresa Clontz of Monroe; sister, Julia and husband Lance Aldridge of Pageland, SC; five granddaughters, Natalie and husband, Sgt. Jason Gentry, U.S. Marines, Andrea and husband Michael Morris, Kelly Self and fiance’, Corporal Stephen B. Morris, U.S. Marines, all of Elizabethtown, KY, Becky and husband, Jesse Tucker of Lancaster, SC, Amanda Clontz of Monroe, NC; one grandson, Anthony Clontz and wife Brittany of Monroe; five great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Claudia was a loyal member of Mill Creek Baptist Church, Monroe, NC. She was formerly employed with Security Bank of Monroe, Citizens Bank, Elizabethtown, KY, and retired after 25 years of service as Assistant Revenue Collector for the City of Monroe, NC. Musically talented, she was a former pianist for Mill Creek Baptist Church for many years, and enjoyed using her beautiful alto voice to blend with her church choir. Claudia was an avid reader and displayed a spirit of benevolence and love toward others.
