Claudine Phifer

Claudine Huneycutt Phifer, age 85, of Albemarle, NC passed away on March 8, 2012 at Kindred Hospital in Richmond, VA. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Hartsell Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. The service will be held Monday, March 12, 2012 at 2 PM at Congregational Christian Church, 1119 Carolina Ave., Albemarle. She will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Pastor Donald Ray Johnson will officiate the services. At other times, the family will meet at the home. Mrs. Phifer was born in Anson County on October 5, 1926 to the late Marshall Ray and Maude Shuping Huneycutt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, William Brice Phifer and two sisters, Ruth Terry and Mary Ella Pruitt. Mrs. Phifer worked with the Albemarle Police Department for 33 years. She was the first woman police officer hired by the City of Albemarle, and in 1984 was awarded, Law Enforcement Woman of the Year, for the state of North Carolina. Mrs. Phifer is survived by her daughter, Sheila Phifer Ward of Warsaw, VA; grandchildren, James Harper Ward Jr. and wife Gloria Ward, and Rebeccah Phifer Ward, all of Richmond, VA; great-granchildren, Sarah and Lucy Ward of Richmond, VA. Memorials may be made to Congregational Christian Church, 1119 Carolina Avenue, Albemarle, NC 28001. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Phifer family.
