Cletus Marie Roscoe Phillips, age 80, of Albemarle, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2011 at Stanly Regional Medical Center. . Mrs Phillips was a member of South Albemarle Baptist Church where she was active in the Stanly Baptist WMU and also served as president. She enjoyed entertaining others with her “Clown” ministry. She was a resident at Spring Arbor in Albemarle, NC. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle from 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2011. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. in the Chapel. The service will be officiated by Rev. Danny Laws and Rev.Jesse Dennis. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park. At other times, the family will be at the home of her sister, Bernice Kluttz, at 621 Ridge Street, Albemarle NC. Mrs. Phillips was born in Stanly County, on December 13, 1931, to the late Proctor James “P.J.” Roscoe and the late Mollie Pauline Mauldin Roscoe. She is also predeceased by her husband, James Douglas Phillips, who died in 1979; daughter, Beth Phillips; brother, Cecil Roscoe; and sisters, Irene Forte, Ophelia Ridenhour, and Nannie Henry. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Cox of Fountain Inn, SC; three grandchildren, Adam Cox and wife, Stephanie, Susan Cox, Mary Cox; and sister, Bernice Kluttz of Albemarle. Memorials may be made to South Albemarle Baptist Church, 1005 S 2nd St Albemarle, NC 28001 or Spring Arbor Resident Activities, 315 Park Ridge Road Albemarle, NC 28001. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Phillips family.
