Clyde Bryson, age 93, passed away peacefully at his home in Richfield, NC, on Friday, August 15, 2014.

He was born in Glenville, NC, on October 27, 1920, to the late Sam Bryson and the late Susie Jane Hooper Bryson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Frances Green Bryson; his son, Clyde Dean Bryson; and a sister, Grace Bryson Galloway.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM, Monday, August 18, 2014 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Rick Clayton, will follow at 2:00 PM in Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel. The burial will be at Stanly Gardens of Memory, 2001 East Main Street, Albemarle, NC 28002.

He is survived by three daughters, Connie A. Bryson of Richfield, Nita B. Miller (Warren) of Richfield, and Freida B. Wyatt (Roger) of Athens, GA; grandchildren, Cindy M. Freeman, Sid Misenheimer, Lisa Misenheimer, Laura Misenheimer, Rick Clayton, Sam Clayton, Chris Miller, Derek Wyatt, and Tamara Beebe; great-grandchildren, Travis Freeman, Alicia F. Herrin, Ellis Misenheimer, Dell Misenheimer, Mason Misenheimer, Miley Misenheimer, Tyler Burris, Josh Clayton, Dan Clayton, Anna Clayton, Grace Clayton, Jacob Clayton, and Jacob Jensen; and one great great-grandchild, Bennick Lowe; a brother, Earl Bryson of Augusta, SC; and a sister, Shirley B. Smith of Cullowhee, NC.

Clyde was a graduate of Glenville High School and a member of Stanly Community Church.

Clyde was a hard worker in logging and farming early in his life. He was later involved in the construction of Bear Creek, East Fork, and Wolf Creek Dams in Jackson County, NC; Chilhowee Dam, in Chilhowee, TN, and in the late 50's and early 60's Tuckertown Dam in Stanly County. He began work for ALCOA in November 1953 and retired in July of 1982. He had an admirable work ethic, that was hard to match, and was a man with good sound advice. He was always there for his family. He loved his cattle, horses, and dogs. His favorite thing he loved to do was ride his tractor and take care of the land. He and his wife had a great love for their mountain heritage and always longed to “go back home” at a later time in life, but their love for family kept them at their home in Richfield where they remained for over 55 years.

With grateful hearts the family thanks Ruth Silsby, his PA and Marlana his nurse; Carol Goodman of Hospice of Stanly County; and HCC's Stephanie, Amber, Alex, Debbie and Cathy for their tender care, kindness, and love shown to Clyde and his daughters during the last months of his life. A special thanks to all his friends for their calls and visits during his illness.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 North First Street, Albemarle, NC 28002.
