Clyde Surratt

Clyde Melvin Surratt, 81, of 1117 Austin Street, Albemarle, NC, formerly of Norwood, passed away on April 17, 2011 at Carebridge in Mt. Pleasant. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 19 from 6-8 PM at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. At other times the family will meet at the home. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 20 at 2 PM at Laurel Street Baptist Church, Albemarle, with a 30 minute state. Rev. John Surratt will officiate and the burial will be at Stanly Gardens of Memory Mausoleum. Mr. Surratt served in the NC National Guard and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Surratt was born in Stanly County on June 24, 1929 to the late William Pearl “Pearlie” Surratt and the late Cora Belle Hatley Surratt. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lois Esther Honeycutt Surratt in 2009; daughter, Linda Faye Surratt; step-daugher, Mary Morris; stepfather George Campbell Duke; and brothers, Robert and William Surratt. He is survived by sons, Clyde Melvin Surratt, Jr., John Wayne Surratt and Rodney Lee Surratt all of Albemarle; daughter, Libby Ann Surratt Parnell of Norwood, Gaye Morris of Troy; stepson, Larry Smith; twenty grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
