Colleen Whitley

Colleen Baucom Whitley, 88 of Stanfield, NC, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at her home. Mrs. Whitley was born May 6, 1923, in Union County. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Eugene Whitley, who passed away January 2, 2009; father, Ellis Vernon Baucom; mother, Ethel Simpson Baucom; brothers, Cleamon Baucom and Glenn Baucom; and sisters, Viola Baucom Edwards and Alma Baucom Braswell. During her early years, Mrs. Whitley was employed as head dietician at Stanfield Elementary School and retired from Allison Manufacturing after 22 years. She loved her family and was always doing something for them. She loved baking, sewing, gardening, and her beloved Berea Baptist Church of which she and her husband were the oldest members. The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m., Thursday, June 16, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be 4:00 p.m., Friday, with a 30 minute state, at Berea Baptist Church of Stanfield, officiated by Rev. Brad Phifer and Rev. Gordon Huneycutt. Interment will follow at Love’s Grove United Methodist Church. At other times, the family will meet at her home. Survivors include her children, Randy Eugene Whitley and wife, Beverly, Brenda Whitley Huneycutt and husband, Joel, and Paulette Whitley Greene and husband, Dowd. Mr. and Mrs. Whitley were proud grandparents to seven grandchildren; Eric Andrew Huneycutt and wife, Sheri, Gordon Andrew Huneycutt and wife, Laura, Ashley Clay Huneycutt and wife, Jane Ellen, Beth Anne Greene Janieri and husband, Chris, Angela Denise Greene and fiancé, Michael, Chad Michael Whitley and wife, Tassa and Jaime Nicole Whitley Elliot and husband, Chris, and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Whitley has one surviving sister, Eunice Baucom Allen, who is 92 years of age, of Midland. Mother will be missed dearly by her family, but they know she is looking at the face of Jesus. Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland is assisting the Whitley family.
