Coy Barnhardt

Coy Samuel Barnhardt, 87 years of age, of Indian Trail, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Coy was born April 23, 1928 in Cabarrus County to the late Martin Homer Barnhardt and the late Hannah Deree Barnhardt. He was also preceded in death by his three brothers, Martin H. Barnhardt, Jr., Clarence Barnhardt, and Buford Barnhardt.

The family will receive friends from 6pm until 8pm on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be at 1pm on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Hopewell Baptist Church - Legacy Campus, 420 Hopewell Church Rd., Monroe. He will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. The burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military rites being conducted. At other times, the family will be gathering at the home.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Helen Louise Barnhardt of Indian Trail; sons, Eddie Ray (Wendy) Barnhardt of Indian Trail, and John Kevin (Sylvia) Barnhardt of Midland; daughters, Donna (Rick) Crowell of Indian Trail, and Freda (Ronny) Poplin of Monroe; brother, Dan Ray Barnhardt of Midland; grandchildren, Randall (Rachel) Poplin, Brandon Crowell, Tiffany (Shelton) Nelson, Taylor Barnhardt, Dustin Barnhardt; and great-grandchildren, Garrett, Cole, and Brynn Poplin, and Bryson and Emilee Nelson.

Coy proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a carpenter by trade.
