Curtis Horne

Curtis Baucom Horne, 75, of Marshville, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023.  He was surrounded by family and found his peace after a brief illness.

Curtis was born March 29, 1947, in Marshville to the late James Silas Horne and the late Sarah Elizabeth Baucom Horne.  In addition to his parents, Curtis was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Bertha Ann Cavanaugh Horne; and brothers, Larry Horne and Mick Horne.

Our amazing father and pawpaw grew up on the family farm in the New Salem community.  He learned the value of hard work and followed that ethic his whole life.  Curtis proudly served in the North Carolina National Guard.  After beginning as a programmer with North Carolina National Bank (now Bank of America), he became a vice president and worked his entire career with "the bank."  During this time he was also a tireless caregiver to his wife, Bertha, for 41 years.  They worked together to raise their family in the face of extraordinarily difficult circumstances.

He enjoyed spending time at the beach, working on home projects, spending time with his family, doing crossword and Sudoku puzzles, and watching the Carolina Panthers.  He was a kind and easy-going man, willing to solve problems, and taught us all about love and loyalty.

Curtis is survived by his three children; son, Chris (Denise) Horne; daughter, Wendy (Roger) Growcock; son, Brian (Jeanie) Horne; four grandchildren, Alex and Ethan Horne, Curtis Horne and Hayley Growcock; brother, Gene Horne; and his special friend, Wanda Godfrey.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 24, 2023, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Marshville.
