Cynthia Smith

On July 26th, the Lord wrapped His arms around Cynthia Diane Smith and took her home to begin her eternal life. She was 60 years old. Cynthia was born on October 28th, 1949 in Palatka, Florida to LeeRoy & Raynell Parm. Cynthia was raised by her Aunt Edith Edgerton and her Grandmother Clara Lott. She graduated in 1967 from Bacon County High School located in Alma, Georgia. Upon graduation, she relocated to Macon, Georgia where she met her husband who was serving at Robins Air Force Base. After completion of her husband’s military obligation, they relocated to his hometown of Middletown, NY. Cynthia worked at the Department of Social Services for 28 years. Cynthia started out as a clerk typist in the Goshen, NY office. Later on, she was in charge of the HEAP and Utilities Unit. She retired as the office manager supervisor of the Newburgh, NY office in 1999. She loved her sons very much. During their youth, she enjoyed watching them wrestle. On many occasions she would sit on the side of the wrestling mat and coach her sons. They were both championship wrestlers. Cynthia’s hobbies included traveling to the beach, playing the slot machines and bingo. However, her true love was bowling. Cynthia bowled in the league for over 30 years and won numerous awards. She made it a point to bowl in the nationals every year regardless of what state it was held in. It was an extra bonus for Cynthia when she had the opportunity to bowl in Reno or Vegas so she could play the slot machines. Survivors include; her husband of 43 years, Stephen Charles Smith; her son, Brad Christopher Smith and his fiancée Cindy Mills; her brother Bob Parm and his wife Sandy Parm; her aunt Edith Edgerton; her stepmother, Joyce Griffin and her half sister Jan Spikes. She was preceeded in death by her parents; LeeRoy & Raynell Parm; her grandmother Clara Lott; and her son Brian Stephen Smith. To honor Cynthia’s request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to The American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA 22311.
