Daniel Thomas Huenink, 69, went home to be with the Lord on October 15, 2016, at Carolinas HealthCare System Northeast. Daniel was born on September 14, 1947, in Chicago, IL to James Gordon Hueninkand Tina DiNatali Huenink (both deceased). He is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn Senn Huenink; son, Ty Stokes of Lexington, SC (ChristinaStokes); grandsons, Joshua Stokes and Benjamin Stokes of Lexington, SC; brothers, Jim Huenink ofChicago, IL (Jill Higgins) and Jeff Huenink of Winter Garden, FL (Heather Herold); sisters, Lisa Hart of New Jersey (Greg Hart) and Kim Worthington of Bayside, WI (Ross Worthington); aunt, YolandaCerkluski of Wisconsin; nieces, Mia St. Clair of Chicago, IL, Marin Smith of Bayside, WI, KellyMeinke of Florida, and Courtney Ellis of Florida; and nephews, Ben Smith of Bayside, WI and JeffreyHuenink of Florida. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carole St. Clair of Mt. Prospect, IL.

Though he was not in active combat, he served two years as a member of the Army during the VietnamWar earning a good conduct medal, national defense service medal, and an honor for being a rifle expert. After graduating from Southern Illinois University, he was involved in radio, television, human resources, sales, and management. Daniel retired after several years in wireless sales, including serving as a district manager over 30 stores where he was awarded for top sales performance.Daniel was always known as “larger than life.” He was a large man with an engaging personality. He enjoyed making others laugh with his sarcasm and sense of humor. He was hard headed, but bighearted; he always wanted to give to missions and other worthy causes. He always enjoyed being in-the-know on technology and cars. He loved Italian food, Western movies, and shopping at Wal-Mart. He never met a stranger; he could develop a relationship with anyone he met, including the workers at the retail stores he would frequent. Daniel loved the Lord with all his heart, and enjoyed serving Him in various capacities. He was part of the musical ministry at several churches where he played drums and bass guitar. He was selected to receive training on home care groups, and he was responsible for implementing and leading home groups at churches in South Carolina, Indiana, and North Carolina. He served on church leadership in various capacities, including serving on one leadership council during the church's pastoral transition.Daniel also took part in mission trips to Russia and Zimbabwe.

A memorial service will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home, 460 Branchview Drive NE, Concord, NC 28025, on Sunday, October 23, 2016, at 3:00 pm. A visitation with the family and light refreshments will follow from 4 to 5:30 pm. Flowers may be sent to the same location. Burial will follow at a later date at Fort Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors.
