Darryl Lee “Butch†Delaney, 61, of Lighthouse Road, Oakboro, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011, at his home. He enjoyed wood working and was a mechanic for Phillip Morris, Concord. Slot cars were a favorite pastime as was playing guitar and drums all his life. He was an avid gun enthusiast and enjoyed shooting. Mr. Delaney was born May 23, 1949 in Bridgeport, Conn. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry William Delaney; mother, Marion Olive Slatcher Delaney; and two sisters, Mabel D. O’Connell and Elizabeth A. DeLoma. The family will receive friends 7 – 9 p.m., Wednesday, April 6, at Hartsell Funeral Home, Midland. The funeral will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, Midland, NC, officiated by Rev. Ron Honeycutt and Rev. Charles Barnes. Burial will follow in the Oakboro Cemetery. At other times, the family will meet at his home. He is survived by his wife, Katherine Mary Carbone Delaney, of the home; son, David Delaney and daughter, Marion Delaney, both of Oakboro; brothers, Henry “Skip†Delaney, Jr. of Branford, Conn., William J. Delaney of Greensboro, and Rickey A. Delaney of Middlesex, NC; sisters, Marion D. Stevens and Mary M. Price, both of Staley, NC, Anna May Russell and Dorene Delaney of Milford, Conn, Arlene J. Mills of Five Points, Alabama, and Audrey Curtiss of Sebring, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
