David Faggart

February 5, 1951 — October 15, 2019

David Lee Faggart, 68, a resident at the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center in Morganton, formerly of Concord, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2019, after months of declining health at JIRDC.

David was born February 5, 1951 in Concord to the late Stacey Lee and Elizabeth Honeycutt Faggart.

He is survived by his sister, Sharon Stoudemayer and husband, Eddie, of Concord; and niece RiSha Mattingly, and her children, Dylan and Meadow, all of Concord.

David was a very special person in many ways and was loved by everyone that met him.  He never met a stranger.  Regardless of his challenges, he loved life and took great pride in the pottery bowls he made, his sanding skills in the woodworking shop, the love letters he spent countless hours writing, his long reign as "Sheriff of Maple Cottage" and being a member of Scout Troop #212.  David had a keen sense of humor and loved to laugh and make others laugh.

A memorial service in celebration David's life will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church in Concord, officiated by Rev. Michael Frye.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church, 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm.  Following the service, David will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at the JIRDC for their many years of caring for David and most importantly for the concerns, interest, compassion and love shown to him throughout the years.  The family also wants to thank David's longtime friend and friend of the family, Barbara Schneider, who continued her relationship with him after she retired from the "center" by visiting him monthly, taking him out to dinner at Center Stage and being present for holidays and his birthdays.  A special thank you from the family goes out to the ICU, doctors and nurses at CHS Blue Ridge, formerly Grace Hospital, in Morganton for their care and compassion for David in his final weeks of earthly life.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation made in David's memory to The ARC of Cabarrus County, 51 Union St. S., Concord NC 28025; or to "Assure the Future" designated for Maple Cottage, JIRDC, 300 Enola Rd, Morganton NC 28655.
