David Floyd, age 68 of Albemarle, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2012 at his home. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 10, 2012. The funeral service will be held at Centerview Baptist Church at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 11 at 2:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Todd Galloway. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Stanly County DAV. David was born in Stanly County on October 1, 1943, to the late James Irenus Floyd and the late Hattie Thompson Floyd. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Winfree Floyd of the home; two sons, David Robin Floyd of Albemarle, David Lowder and his wife Renda Lowder of Albemarle; a daughter, Beverly LaRue and her husband Kevin of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, David Allen Floyd of Lancaster, SC, Samantha and Matthew Lowder of Albemarle; great grand-children, Michael and Matthew Floyd of Lancaster, SC; sister, Sue Floyd Laughton and her husband, Raymond of Beaufort, NC and stepmother, Ruth Floyd of Albemarle. He was retired from Alcoa and was a seasonal park attendant at Morrow Mountain State Park. He was a member of Centerview Baptist Church and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. David thoroughly enjoyed fishing and spent much of his leisure time with his “fishing buddy” and good friend, David Mills. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First Street, Albemarle, NC 28001 or Centerview Baptist Church, 508 Northeast Connector, Albemarle, NC 28001. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Floyd family.
