David Sanges

David Edward Sanges, 65, of Albemarle, died Friday, July 9, 2021, at Atrium Health Main in Charlotte, NC.

Dave was born in Tampa, FL, on April 21, 1956, to the late James William Sanges and Sadie Anne Pickler. His childhood crossed multiple state lines due to his father being an officer in the U.S. Air Force. The Sanges family landed in Albemarle, NC, where Dave was active in Boy Scouts, pranks, spending time outside with his friends, playing football and getting into mischief. He graduated from Albemarle High School in 1974 and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1976-1980 where he reached the rank of Sergeant. In June 1980, this southern gentleman married the late Teresa Sides Sanges and they shared 26 years together before her passing in 2006. Dave received a business degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and had a successful career as a District Sales Manager within a variety of industries.

Within his 65 years of life, Dave would say his most prized accomplishment would be the title of “Dad,” later becoming “Papa Geez.” He was a strong and loving family man cherishing moments of laughter, fellowship, and conversation. Dave was also a strong fighter. He beat leukemia twice and faced multiple trials with the mantra, “We got this.”

Most people who knew Dave realized that he rarely wore the same outfit twice. He was a gifted interior decorator, collected antiques, always had a stash of Bugles in the kitchen (which he enjoyed feeding to the grandpups), and could generate songs to familiar tunes on a whim. When asked a question he didn’t know the answer to, he had the ability to answer with confidence, even if it was an elaborate made-up response. He was a hopeless romantic which was evident in his creative writing abilities. There is quite a collection of poems he has authored over the years! Dave was quick witted and full of humor which drew people to him…that and, he knew how to dazzle a crowd with a joke, story or “magic” trick. Dave often brought humor into difficult situations which is a reason he was adored by so many. His generosity knew no bounds and he would drop anything to be available when needed, especially for his girls.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 15, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Albemarle followed by a drop in BBQ and Brown picnic at his home from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM.

He is survived by his two daughters, Amanda Sanges Bellamy (Chris) and Brittany Sanges Facinoli (Theo); granddaughter, Tessa Facinoli; and three siblings, Nathan Sanges (Marlene), Jane Sanges and Beverly Sanges Moser (Dave).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Now, “Go out and make it a good day, and learn something in the process.” -Dave
