Dewel Murray

Dewell Elias Murray, 95 of Oakboro, NC, passed away, July 08, 2011 at the home of his daughter, Thelmas Burris. Mr. Murray was born March 04, 1916 in Stanly County to the late Ossie Gold Murray and Minnie Angeline Lambert Murray. He was also preceded in death by his wife Anna Hathcock Murray; grandson, Randy Burris; seven brothers and one sister. He served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theatre, 99th Infantry Division. He was a retired truck driver for Service Distributing. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, July 10, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The funeral service will begin at 6 p.m., officiated by Rev. Garry Baker. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. At other times the family will meet at the home of Billy Joe and Thelma Burris in Oakboro. He is survived by his daughter, Thelma Burris and husband Billy Joe of Oakboro, NC.; a grandson, Rick Burris and wife Jane of Statesville, NC; a great-granddaughter, Rebecca Jane Burris; a great-grandson, Robert Burris and a sister, Bessie Mae Huneycutt of Beaufort, NC. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 North First Street, Albemarle, NC 28001. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is assisting the Murray family.
