Dewey Leander Morton, 94, of Oakboro, passed away June 20, 2013, at his home. The family will receive friends at Smith Grove Primitive Baptist Church, Oakboro, on Sunday, June 23, 2013, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. The funeral service will follow in the church at 2:00 pm. Elder Ted Morton, Rev. Dwayne Hinson and Rev. Kevin Taylor will officiate. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times the family will meet at his home. Born April 16, 1919 in Stanly County, NC, he is the son of the late Columbus Greene Morton and the late Minter Eva Ellen Crisco Morton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Bronnie Ellie Hill Morton, in 2000. He is survived by his son, Ted Morton of Oakboro; daughters, Lois Morton Hinson of Albemarle, and Louise Morton Curlee and husband J.J. of Oakboro; grandchildren, David Hinson, Dwayne Hinson, Jimmy Hinson, Jenny Hinson, Michelle Moody, Amy Pruitt and Timothy Curlee; 22 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. He was a cabinet maker for Page’s Church Furniture and served in the US Army Infantry during WWII.
