Dewitt Brown, Jr.

Dewitt "Sonny" Talmadge Brown, Jr., 87, of Harrisburg, NC passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord.

Sonny was born January 27, 1933 in Concord, NC to Dewitt Talmadge Brown, Sr. and Alice Brown .
He was also preceded in death by his children Ricky Brown and Mary Crayton, and his sister Madge Pearce.

Survivors include wife, Mazelle Brown, daughter, Kathy Pierce, grandchildren; Ryan Lupo and Katie Parr, and great-grandchildren; Alyssa Mann and Reign Parr.

Sonny loved gardening - he supplied Harrisburg with fresh vegetables (specializing in tomatoes) for over 25 years through his produce stand. He also enjoyed fishing and was an avid craftsman - he could craft almost anything and especially loved woodworking. He was a member of Harrisburg Presbyterian Church for most of his life. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War as an aircraft mechanic for "Thunderbird" jets. Sonny had a passion for cooking and looked forward to cooking Sunday dinner every week for his family, even when he could barely walk. He is remembered for his enormous sense of humor, his kind heart, and the love he had for his family.

The family will receive friends at a drop-in visitation from 10:00am until 11:15 am Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Hartsell Funeral Home Harrisburg with funeral service following at 11:30 am in the Hartsell Funeral Home Harrisburg Chapel, officiated by Pastor Dr. Rodney Quensenbury.  Burial will follow at Harrisburg Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
