Dianne Shepherd

Dianne Shepherd, 75, of Concord, passed away Friday, July 19, 2019 at Carolinas HealthCare System
NorthEast in Concord. She was born, June 12, 1944 at Biltmore Hospital in Asheville to William “Wesley”
Roberts and Dora Young Roberts and lived in Burnsville, North Carolina until her marriage in 1965.


In addition to her parents, Dianne was preceded in death by her son-in-law, David Bodenheimer.


Dianne was a graduate of East Yancey High School in Burnsville, attended Western Carolina College and
graduated from the University of Maryland, European Division, in 1969. She met her husband, John, in
1964 while working a summer job at Crabtree Meadows on the Blue Ridge Parkway. They married 15
months later on August 29, 1965, beginning 53 years of devotion to one another and commitment to
seeking God’s will in every corner of their lives.


Following her husband’s Air Force service, which included three years in England, Dianne’s life was
dedicated to homemaking and motherhood for a time, along with teaching classes in fabric painting,
dimensional painting and calligraphy. Her work was featured twice at the Cannon Visitors’ Center in
Kannapolis as Artist of the Month, once for calligraphy and once for dimensional painting. She later
worked and retired in 2004 after 20 years with Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation.


Dianne and her husband were members of Epworth United Methodist Church in Concord, where she
was active on several committees, including serving as a church or district delegate to the Annual United
Methodist Annual Conference in Lake Junaluska for many years. She enjoyed the past 15 years working
Thursdays at the church’s hotdog sales.


A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, July 25, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 1030
Burrage Rd. NE in Concord. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45pm prior to the service.


Survivors include her husband, John Shepherd, of Concord, NC, daughter, Jenny Bodenheimer, also of
Concord, son, Ian and his wife, Beverly, of Rockwell, NC, grandchildren, David Michael (Tripp)
Bodenheimer III and Taylor Bodenheimer, both of Concord, sister, Cheryl Banks and her husband,
Talmadge, of Burnsville NC and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Finally, there is her precious toy
poodle, Lizzie. Lizzie’s place at night was sleeping on Dianne’s shoulder.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church Hotdog Fund.
