Donald Marvin Bowers

Donald Marvin Bowers, 77, of Albemarle, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2024, peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.

Donnie was born February 6, 1946, in Albemarle, North Carolina to the late Marvin Thomas Bowers and Pauline Lambert Bowers. He graduated from West Stanly High School and attended Pine Grove Methodist Church.  Donnie married Melody Helms, his high school love, in 1966.  He served honorably in the US Navy on the ship, U.S.S. Lorraine County. Donnie then went on to work tirelessly at growing the family businesses, Bowers Hatchery and Bowers Farms Inc.  He farmed most of his life, producing poultry, commercial eggs, and cattle. When delivering to restaurants and grocery stores, he was often known as "The Egg Man".  Donnie, along with his family, worked hard to expand the egg business to include flowers, plants, produce, and candy. He enjoyed making weekend trips to the beach with his family, planting vegetables, especially pumpkins, watching any kind of sports on television, and spending as much time as possible outside. Donnie was a devoted and supportive father who always tried his best to fix any problems. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, Buddy. Donnie loved to meet new people and could start up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. Friends joked that he had never met a stranger.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Monday, January 8, 2024, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Pine Grove Methodist Church in Albemarle officiated by Rev. Ron Dry. Burial will immediately follow at Pine Grove Methodist Church Cemetery at 28766 NC 24-27 Highway, Albemarle.
