Donald Starnes, Sr.

Donald Ellis Starnes Sr, 80, of Locust, passed away on  March 27, 2021  at Tucker Hospice House in  Kannapolis, NC.

He was born on April 25, 1940 to Ellis and Gladys (Spittle) Starnes in Charlotte,  NC.  Donald Retired  from Mecklenburg County Gov. after over 20 years of service  as a plumbing inspector. He was known as "The Man" on his job taking pride in ensuring everything was done in order and with excellence.  Donald had a special love for bluegrass gospel music in which  he played for over 20 years.  He was a wonderful husband, loving father, and true friend to many.  Donald will be sorely missed by all who had a chance to know and love him.

Donald is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Patricia, daughter, Stacie Starnes son, Donnie (Lynne) Starnes, son, Bobby (Sherry) Starnes, son, Rusty (Lynn) Starnes, stepson, Dane (Donna), stepson, Darryl (Melissa), sister, Judy Starnes Horne, brother, Billy Wayne Starnes,  13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by father, Ellis Starnes, mother, Gladys Starnes, and sister Shella Burkett.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2021, 1:00 pm at the Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte, NC, with , Rev. Dr. Tommy Ross officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC  28081 and to First Baptist Church of Locust 320 S Central Ave, Locust, NC 28097
