Donald Huneycutt

Don Huneycutt, 73, of Oakboro, passed away Monday, December 23, 2019 at Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord.

Mr. Huneycutt was born August 10, 1946 in Stanly County to the late Tom Jackson Huneycutt and the late Clemme Richardson Huneycutt. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Jack Huneycutt, Joe Huneycutt; and sisters, Carolyn Burris and Dottie Huneycutt.

Don was the youngest of six children and was raised in Oakboro, NC. He served in the United States Army and was a decorated Vietnam War Veteran. He married Carolyn Dodd only 11 days before leaving for service. They later had two daughters and four grandchildren. Don and Carolyn lived in Summerville, SC for 13 years where Don worked in water construction. They moved back to Oakboro in 1982. Over the years, Don and Carolyn owned and operated a family farm, an auto parts store, and a pipe construction company - Huneycutt Utilities, Inc.

Don was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and other outdoor activities. He was involved in the yearly veteran reunion of the 199th Light Infantry Brigade where he was able to keep in touch with lifelong friends. Don mostly loved spending time with his grandchildren and his beloved dogs, whether it be fishing at the pond, driving the tractor or riding the golf cart. “Pawpaw” was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm, Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Oakboro United Methodist Church, 405 N. Main Street in Oakboro. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm at the church officiated by Rev. Gene Moore. Burial will follow the service at the Oakboro Cemetery at 1397 North Main Street, Oakboro.

Survivors include wife, Carolyn Huneycutt of Oakboro; daughters, Sherri Eudy (Paul) of Albemarle and Amy Austin (Ricky) of Oakboro; grandchildren, Chase and Brooke Burris, Drake and Colton Austin; and sister, Betty Huneycutt (Aaron) of Wadesboro.
