Donald Mclester, Sr

Donald Lee McLester, Sr., age 79, of Concord, NC passed away on February 23, 2016. Don was born in Mount Pleasant, NC, the son of Homer and Ola Mae McLester.
He was married in 1958 to the former Judy Sloop, and together they raised two children, Kathy and Donald. He worked many years for Cannon Mills and also served as building manager for the Presbyterian Church of Concord. As a young man Don enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and father in the woods of Mount Pleasant.
Don was a faithful member of Sharon Baptist Church for many years and enjoyed driving the church bus and working with youth groups. He also worked tirelessly in service to the least among us, establishing the Gospel Street Mission with longtime friend David Weant to assist local homeless people. He was very proud when the mission’s Christmas float was selected as best of the Concord Christmas parade.
He is survived by his wife, Judy of Concord; his children, Kathy Haynes (Tony) of Knoxville, TN and Donald McLester (Sarah) of Charleston, SC; his sisters, Lois Walters of Charlotte and Kay Dennis of Kannapolis. Don was predeceased by his brothers, Gurley and Floyd McLester.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 29, 2016, 1:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home, located at 460 Branchview Drive, Concord. There will be a visitation with the family one hour prior to the service. The family wishes to thank the staff of Universal Health Care for their excellent care of Don over the past six years.
