Donald Franklin Sellers, Sr., 83, of Harrisburg, passed away on Tuesday, July 03, 2012, at Carolinas Medical Center - Northeast. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord on Saturday, July 7, 2012, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel at 4:00 p.m. Donald was born on March 5, 1929, to the late Nash Sellers and the late Thetis Prevatte Sellers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dewey Sellers: a brother, Hoyle Sellers; and two sisters, Hilda Spencer and Mary Nash. Donald enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the latter stages of World War II on the mine sweeper USS Ellyson DDS-19 which saw action in the Pacific. After the war he enlisted in the United States Army and went through paratroopers school in Ft. Benning, Georgia and was assigned to the 307th Airborne Engineer Battalion of the 82nd Airborne. He was awarded numerous medals for service to his country. He was a member of the Cabarrus Masonic Lodge 720 AF & AM. After Donald’s career as a truck driver, he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his nephews and spending time with his grandchildren whom he loved very much. He is survived by his wife, Dewrene Elmore Sellers; four sons, Donald Sellers, Jr., and wife, Lynn of York, SC; Glenn Sellers and wife, Candace of Mt. Pleasant, Monty Sellers and wife, Kim of Harrisburg and Earl Sellers and wife, Sue of Rochester, NY; a daughter, Wanda Wright and husband, Gene of Ft. Walden Beach, FL; two sisters, Rachel Little of Casey, SC and Beth Latham of Washington, NC; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Cassidy, Christy, Trent, Josh, John and Danny Sellers; and one great-grandchild, Taylor Austin. Memorials may be made to Lions Club of Harrisburg, 507 Patricia Ave, Harrisburg NC 28075. The family would like to express a special thank you to the CMC Northeast Intensive ACCU heart nursing staff and the doctors for the special and professional care they gave Donald during the last few weeks of his life. Their kindness expressed to our family was very much appreciated. Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord is serving the Sellers family.
