Dora Dorton

Dora Vermelle Hooks Dorton, 82 years of age, of Midland, passed away Friday, December 9, 2011 in Asbury Care Center of Charlotte. Mrs. Dorton was born July 29, 1929 in Cabarrus County to the late Fred Hooks and Mary Jane Hatley Hooks. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, with a 30 minute state, at Howells Baptist Church of Midland officiated by Rev. Ray Rippy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will meet at her home. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Lewis Edgar Dorton, Sr.; her son, Lewis Edgar Dorton, Jr. and his wife, Liliana, of Midland; her grandson, Jay Dorton of Concord; her sister, Ida Thomas of Midland; and her two favorite nieces, Lori Morgan and Lisa Sykes, both of Midland.
