Doris Beatty

Doris Little Beatty went to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, January 13, 2016.

Doris was born October 16, 1929 in Locust, the fifth child of the late Louis Jackson (Jack) Little and Brettie Crayton Little. She was also preceded in death by her husband, LS Beatty; and infant son, Louis Jackson Beatty; two brothers, L. Worth and Hugh J. Little; and two sisters, Hazel Brooks, and Mildred Freeman.

Doris is now rejoicing with her loved ones that have gone before her. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM , Friday, January 15, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Locust. A Celebration of Life officiated by Rev. Dr. Kinney Wallace will follow at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, and infant son.

She is survived by her daughters, LuAnn Flowe and husband, Jimmy of Midland, and Eva Meleones and husband, Jim of Charlotte; beloved son, Lemuel S. Beatty II (Lem); three grandchildren, Barrett Flowe, Amity Broome and husband, Anthony, and Ivey Flowe; two great-grandchildren, Tristen and Isaak; two sisters, Kay Howell and husband, Leonard, and Brenda Carpenter and husband, Larry all of Locust; family member and good friend, Joyce Beatty; sister-in-law, Margie Basile of Vero Beach, FL; brother-in-law, Byron Beatty and wife, Colleen of Vero Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Dot Little of Albemarle; and many nieces and nephews.

Doris was raised in a strict, but loving and happy Christian family. She worked with her father in the family General Store and on the farm while her two brothers, Worth and Hugh J. served during World War II. Doris attended Locust Elementary School and graduated from Stanfield High School. She married LS Beatty from Midland, NC on October 12, 1946 and continued her education at Evans Business College in Charlotte, where she received a degree in Accounting. During her career as a bookkeeper, she worked for Shamrock Drugs, Inc., JO Flowe Grading Co., Inc., and Beatty Motor Co., Inc., and Beatty Fruit Co., of Midland. Doris and LS were married for over 51 years. They moved to Lake Tillery in Norwood in 1972. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church for 32 years and was active in the choir, WMU, Rejoicing Upper Room, Sunday School Class, and Norwood Book Club where she served in many different capacities. She was a volunteer for Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle, Hospice of Stanly County, Meals on Wheels, and enjoyed helping others. In 2003, Doris moved back to Midland to be close to her children. She rejoined First Baptist Church of Locust and was active in Ladies #2 Sunday School Class and the choir.

Doris will be greatly missed by her many friends and family. She was a woman of strong faith, who instilled Christian values in her children and put God and her family first.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Mom's "Angels" on earth, Becky Flowe and Kay Efird both of Midland, Willie Curlee and Janet Teeter both of Locust, and the Hospice Team of Charlotte, Anetria, Gayle, Glaucia, and Dr. Victoria Lampkin who supported the family and cared for Mom during her illness.
