Doris Shipton Deese, 87, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 9, 2015. She was born on February 20, 1928 in Rowan County to the late C. J. and Lillie Morgan Shipton. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Martin A. Deese, and brother, Ray Shipton.
Mrs. Deese was a member of the Congregational Christian Church in Albemarle for 69 years and until health prevented was an active member of the Dorcas Circle. She was also a former member of the Albemarle Lioness Club. Having worked in the textile field at Wiscassett Hosiery Mill, EJ Snyder Co, and WareKnitters, Mrs. Deese was retired from American Lockstitch. She was an avid gardener and especially enjoyed her vast flower gardens. Having been an excellent cook and baker, many people will remember the cakes and persimmon puddings she made for family and friends. She also loved to crochet and craft.
She is survived by her daughter, Freida D. Tarlton and husband Gene of Monroe, and son, Aaron Deese and wife Jane of Albemarle. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Wesley Deese (Amme), Christy T. Wilson (Jason) and Jennifer D. Barker (Brian); and seven great-grandchildren, Payton, Presley and Parker Deese, Sydney and Ivey Wilson, and Mason and Caleb Barker; sister, Ruby S. Talbert (Alton); and brother, Larry Shipton (Iris).
Her family wishes to thank all of the many caregivers that have been a part of her life for the past six years.
A funeral to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at 1:00 pm in the Chapel at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Stanly Gardens of Memory.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association - Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Dr, Charlotte, NC 28215, or a Hospice provider of the donor’s choice.
