Doris Curlee Efird, 85 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at her home.
Doris was born November 25, 1930 in Richmond County to the late Colon Hill Thompson and the late Ethel Dennis Thompson. She was also preceded in death by first husband, James Cecil Curlee, Sr.; second husband, Franklin Efird; and brother, Robert Thompson.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Porter Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Dr. Kinney Wallace and Rev. Chris Wallace. She will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. The burial will follow at Stanly Gardens of Memory, 2001 East Main St., Albemarle. At other times, the family will be gathering at her home.
She is survived by her sons, James "Cecil" Curlee, Jr. and wife Tamy of Norwood; Ricky Curlee of Albemarle; daughter, Mitzi London and husband Joe of Boone; sister, Annie Lee Curlee and husband Cletus of Norwood; grandchildren, Tyler Curlee and wife Jenn, Jordan (fiancee, Brandie Carhart), Brooke, Travis, and Wyatt Curlee, Nicholas (fiancee, Callie Efird) and Kathryn London (fiance, Baine Martin); and great-grandson, Casher Curlee.
Doris was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. A caretaker for her husband, Cecil, for many years of declining health, she had immeasurable love for her family. Doris enjoyed working in the yard, cooking, and shopping at Belk. She was a faithful member of Porter Baptist Church. She was active in her church as long as her health would allow, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir.
