Visitation is at 1 PM at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 731 Union Street South on Wednesday, August 24th followed by her funeral at 2 PM. The Rev. Dr. Scott Simpson, officiating. Interment will be at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis. Dot was born on March 4, 1926 and was a life long resident of Concord. She was preceded in death by her father, Franklin Ralph Ikerd, mother, Eunice Stallings Ikerd and brother William Ikerd. Dot was a loving mother with a joyful, optimistic spirit. She was one of those special people who, like her father, saw good in everyone. She inherited her mother’s “green thumb†and shared her gardening knowledge and skills with her friends and neighbors. Dot graduated from Harrisburg High School and Kings Business College, Charlotte. She was employed by Carolina Nursery and Landscaping, Charlotte, as their secretary and treasured for 25 years. Upon retirement she devoted her time to volunteer work with Kitty City and with the Humane Society of Concord and Cabarrus County. Her special touch and soft voice could calm the most angry, belligerent cat and have him purring in her lap. At her 80th birthday party she was recognized for her commitment and hours of work to support the Cabarrus County Spay and Neuter Project. Dot was a great cook and an avid recipe collector. She used this talent to facilitate the preparation and publication of two fund raising cook books, “Paws for Great Foodâ€, for the Humane Society and “Our Favorite Recipes†for Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was one of the original 62 charter members of Covenant Presbyterian Church and a recipient of their coveted “Life Time Service†award. She was a devoted member of the choir and maintained the gardens at Covenant for many years. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Willis Cline and husband Wayne, grandson Harold W. Cline, Jr. and wife April, granddaughter Edy Cline Johnston and husband Ralph (Jay), three great-grandchildren, Chloe and Timothy Cline and Heidi Johnston, a sister-in-law, Sue Ikerd Brown, and two nephews Stephen and Brad Ikerd. The family invites friends to keep her love for “God’s little critters†alive through memorials in her name to Kitty City, 30 Union Street, S., Concord, NC or to Covenant Presbyterian Church.
